The New Dawn Welcome, intrepid recruit. We salute your valiant decision to aid in the formation of the Polaris program and we are hopeful that your distinctive approach will enrich this time of learning and growth. This journey is bound to be replete with obstacles but we will face them head on and create the foundation for the greatest support program ever known. I shall warn you; this letter is long!
But it contains the wisdom that you shall need to continue your pursuit; so don't delete it. We may need to refer back to it from time to time. Below you will find instructions for taking your first steps into the Polaris program. Firstly, you must acquire the basic communication tool for the whole program. The Polaris program performs its daily operations on the coldfront IRC network. To access this network you will need an IRC client capable of performing secure communications (SSL). Highly recommended is the program mIRC. You can download the latest version of this program from: http://www.mirc.com/get.html . Once downloaded and installed, the following website details the installation and setup of the secure communications system: http://www.coldfront.net/ssl/coldfront-ssl.html. For a beginner's primer on IRC, please visit http://www.newircusers.com/. If you have followed the instructions contained in that site, barring any complications you should now be connected to the coldfront IRC network using a secure connection. The main meeting channel is #polaris-academy. Please take a moment now to choose a name for your volunteer persona. This should be a name you are not known by anywhere else in world of eve. The name can not be of an unacceptable nature, ie extermination, Armageddon, doom, Radioactive, etc. You will need to register that name with the IRC Network. Now every time you enter IRC you shall have to identify yourself to the network. To join polaris-academy channel simply type: /join #polaris-academy To change your name type: /nick your_new_name_here To register your name: /ns register password email_addy To identify yourself: /ns identify password Please remember that the Polaris program is one built on a foundation of tolerance and understanding. As such a very high standard of etiquette is expected of all members. Please be polite and respectful in all of your interactions with other Polaris members, as they will in turn be polite and respectful to you. Please refrain from racial, sexual or otherwise derogatory remarks, no matter how light the situation may seem. If a question relating to the game is asked in the channel, please wait until it is answered before you continue your conversation. If you know the answer to the question, feel free to answer it. . There are no insignificant or foolish questions, remember always: "One head cannot contain all wisdom.". If you do not know the answer to a question, then it is in your best interest to learn from the others as the question is resolved. Once you have made your first steps into this wondrous new world, you will receive further training to guide you along the path to becoming a fully trained and able Legionnaire. Your Training shall consist of two classes. Both Classes will be done on the web. The web based tutorials are mandatory to graduate and be assigned to a Senior Team Lead. You must remain in the #polaris-academy while doing the tutorials and the tests. Once again, our deepest thanks to you who have stepped forth to face this challenge at the start of a new day If you are no longer interested in being a volunteer for Eve Online, please email Macayle@polaris.eve-online.com or Revo@polaris.eve-online.
