Одна из очень известных в недалеком прошлом ММОРПГ - Shadowbane стала бесплатной. Вот что сообщается на сайте игры:

Many members of the Shadowbane Community have already noticed that a change has occured to the Billing System today; one that allows players to play for free!
There will be a more in-depth announcement coming soon but, in the meanwhile, I wanted to let our community know that this is not an error. Existing users can now open up their Account Manager and their accounts will now be working, allowing them to play Shadowbane for free! This does include those who had previously canceled accounts!
In addition, those who wish to try out Shadowbane for the first time will also be able to. All you have to do is create a new ubi.com account and then click on Add a Subscription, and you will have free access to the lands of Aerynth! This is not a Free-Trial subscription and it will not run out in 15-days. This is completely free!
If you are looking for a place to download the Shadowbane client, you can get it from FilePlanet by clicking here for the PC version, and here for the Mac version! While these version are labeled for the "Free Trial", they are full versions of the game client and any active accounts can be used to play using them.

То есть, говорится о том, что, те,кто решили открыть для себя игру впервые, получают полностью свободную подписку. Подчеркивается, что это не триал на 5 дней, а полный клиент (примечание: при скачивании с фал-планет он будет обозначен какт риальный, но на самом деле полная версия игры, как пишут - см.выше цитату). Старые подписчики, заходят по прежним аккаунтам с также свободной подпиской.Я клиент уже проапгрейдил и запустил. Всё работает. Подписка - free.

"Ещё об одном важном вопросе надо написать. Не знаю, сохраняет ли он свою актуальность на сегодняшний день, но на всякий случай напишу. Раньше в ШБ существовали ограничения по стране проживания для подписчиков игры. То есть, формально игрть можно было лишь резидентам США и Канады. Для обхода этого запрета при открытии подписки нужно было (привожу отрывок из F.A.Q. по материалам европейских серверов фанатов)сделать следующее:
"Входите в "меню" subscription
Указываете свой РЕАЛЬНЫЙ адрес
Указываете свой РЕАЛЬНЫЙ город
Указываете НЕ РЕАЛЬНУЮ страну, т.е. США
Указываете НЕ РЕАЛЬНЫЙ штат, как, например, Калифорния
Указываете НЕ РЕАЛЬНЫЙ "ZIP" код, как, например, Калифорнийский"
Способ этот использовался тогда, когда за игру нужно было платить деньги. Я пописывался раньше именно таким образом. Аккаунт реактивировал, как уже писал. Аккаунт действителен, то есть, я успешно зашел в игру. Сейчас, видимо, при создании аккаунта также следует использовать эту схему при указании страны и места проживания.Хотя, может быть, они сняли и эти ограничения (на нарушения которых и раньше "смотрели сквозь пальцы").
Выкладываю "универсальные" реквизиты, которые я при регистрации использовал:
Country United States
State/Province California
ZIP/Postal Code 91521 .
Всё остальное, что требовали (имя, улицу, дом, город) - указал настоящее."
